What dermoscopy is
Dermoscopy is a non-invasive optical assessment of skin lesions performed with dedicated equipment and focused illumination. It allows clinicians to evaluate structures that are not visible during a standard visual exam.
Why it matters
- supports differentiation between benign and suspicious lesions,
- improves early recognition of melanoma and other skin cancers,
- helps reduce unnecessary procedures when observation is sufficient.
How we use it in practice
The device is selected according to lesion type and body location. If needed, clinicians compare findings with digital photo documentation and recommend follow-up intervals.
Practical note
Dermoscopy is part of clinical decision-making and does not replace histopathology when excision or biopsy is required.
